Summary

The Control Firmware Engineer is an essential part of a small and dynamic team that develops, maintains, and tests SunPower's various firmware components. Your code will make an impact, it will be powering thousands of devices in the field and be the basis for SunPower's value-added monitoring and control services. You will help SunPower change the way the world is powered.

You take pride in your work. You have a passion for modeling systems and conceiving control algorithms. You write elegant, robust, maintainable, and scalable code.

You will be working with QA, Hardware, and Software Engineering to produce highly reliable and flexible monitoring and control products.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design control algorithms, model control systems in C+
    and Python.
  • Integrate and test control algorithms with external devices across various protocols (such as Modbus, CANbus) and transport layers (such as WIFI, RS-485, TCP).
  • Write, maintain and refactor real-time C/C+
    code for embedded devices (mainly embedded Linux).
  • Review field performance of the product, identify issues, and work with suppliers to resolve.
  • Write automated tests for new features and integrate them into a continuous integration environment.
  • Perform board bring-up and troubleshoot electrical and firmware issues.
  • Test communication with external devices in the lab.
  • Troubleshoot issues in the lab as well as in the field during alpha/beta trials.
  • Maintain a fleet of thousands of devices.
  • Collaborate with other groups on design and implementation of new features.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor s degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering.
  • 4
    years of experience writing C/C+
    code.
  • 2
    years of developing software in a Linux environment.
  • 3
    years of experience in embedded real-time operating systems, digital signal processing, and digital control.
  • Good understanding of encapsulation and object-oriented design.
  • Experience writing multi-threaded programs.
  • Commitment to writing clean, elegant, and correct code.
  • Familiarity with Linux at a user level, experience writing bash scripts.
  • Experience working in a lab environment.

Preferred Requirements

  • Master s degree in Computer Science or Engineering.
  • Proficiency with Python/Pandas.
  • Experience with battery technology and charge controllers.
  • Experience in power electronics hardware and control.
  • Experience with Linux board bring-up.
  • Experience with SCRUM methodology.
  • Experience with continuous integration.
